Emergency funds for Haiti raised in Twerton
The Twerton community has been raising funds to help survivors of the Haiti earthquake disaster.
First, a cake sale in aid of Haiti was organised by St Michael’s Surgery at Walwyn Close. Staff at the surgery came up with the idea and asked local people if they would bake some cakes for the appeal.
On Wednesday the table was covered with a variety of homemade cakes – including chocolate, fruit, banana and fairy cakes. Local resident Mrs Doris Frost managed the sale which was held inside the waiting room of the surgery itself.
Mrs Frost said that it had gone very well and that local people had been very generous.
Then on Saturday, St Michael’s Church held a successful breakfast event in the Rec House (next door to The Full Moon Pub) in aid of the crisis. Dozens of people came along to purchase bacon baps, tea and cakes, make conversation and read an assortment of newspapers. A collection was also held at the door.
Well done Twerton.
