The chocolate eggs will be hidden around the premises of the pub, including the garden, in several sessions between 12 noon and 3pm. The egg hunts are for children aged over 3 and under 12. Joe, 17/03/08 Planning application withdrawnA planning application to demolish Blockbuster DVD and the Magic Wok takeaway in order to construct a four storey building, has been withdrawn by the applicants Bayleigh Estates Ltd. You can read the Council letter confirming the withdrawal here. Bayleigh Estates say that they will be resubmitting their planning application after making some amendments. The Bath Chronicle has an article on this topic. Joe, 12/03/08 Prezence urban art workshops

Multiple sources, 11/03/08 Paint the Park eventPeople of St Michael's Church actively expressed God's love for the community on Sunday, by gathering at Pennyquick Park to paint the play equipment, pick up litter and organise a five-a-side football tournament. The first arrivals began to sand down the old flaky paint on the swings, climbing frames, benches and other objects in the park, ready to apply bright new coats of paint.
A coach load of about forty young people from a Christian school at Monkton Combe turned up to help with the painting and litter picking. Many plastic refuse sacks were filled and a burnt out moped was dragged out of the bushes to be taken away. While all this was going on, seven teams of youngsters from Twerton and Whiteway came to enter the football tournament, and games were played using equipment lent by Bath City Football Club. Two Twerton teams played against each other in the final. Golden-Oldies offers people aged around 50 onwards a great time singing hit songs of the 50s, 60s and 70s. About 15 people turned up to sing lyrics by Abba, the Kinks, Shirley Bassey and other well known groups, and Jackie the warden hopes to go on attracting individuals to the weekly session.
The Golden-Oldies groups began in January, in community rooms provided by Somer Community Housing Trust. They soon attracted media attention from around the world following several reports by the BBC. The first group to be established was the one at Blagdon Park Community Centre in Whiteway. In this part of Bath Golden-Oldies sessions are held in Blagdon Park Community Centre, Whiteway, on Monday mornings from 10.30am to 11.30am. And at Quebec, Twerton, on Thursday afternoons from 2.30pm to 3.30pm. Joe, 06/03/08 Save Our Hillside campaignResidents of Twerton are staunchly resisting a planning application by Somer Housing to build on a grassy stretch of land that lies adjacent to Bath City Farm, The Hollow and Cotswold View. Objections to the application include the point that the housing development would consume part of the green hillside which can be seen for miles around, and that it would be undesirable to construct more buildings so close to the Bath City Farm amenity. Twerton Councillors Tim Ball and Gerry Curran have set up a protest petition that people can sign over the internet. You will find a link to it on their Twerton blog here. In 2006 Bath City Farm tried to purchase the plot of land in question, with the aim of turning it into a community allotment. Unfortunately they were completely outbid. Joe, 03/03/08 |
