Southdown PACT, April 2011The latest PACT meeting for Southdown and Whiteway was held on 27th April. You can get a more detailed report on the meeting by clicking here. This is a meeting that anyone can attend and discuss local issues to be sorted out. At the previous meeting, residents had raised concerns over dangerous parking where Mount Grove meets Mount Road. PCSO Kat Tanko said that police have patrolled the area and fined any drivers found to be parking dangerously. Double yellow lines have now been painted at this junction. The issue of dog fouling was also raised at the previous meeting. A sticker has been designed to go on public litter bins - letting residents know that it is okay to put dog waste in the litter bins as long as it is securely wrapped. Jo Brain the Dog Warden said that a lot could be done to tackle dog fouling. For example there had been a successful a poster campaign in Stirtingale Road and a publicity day was another option. Two issues that emerged as priorities to be actioned were: 1) Reducing mess left by the recycling collectors; 2) Taking up the offer of a dog fouling awareness day at Roundhill and Hillcrest Field. The next PACT meeting for Southdown and Whiteway is scheduled for 13th July 2011 and will be held in Southdown Methodist Centre, The Hollow, at 7pm. Joe, 14/05/11 Got a point of view? The award was offically presented to Landlord Jason Clerk on Tuesday night at around 9pm.
CAMRA representative James Honey said that they had been watching the progress of The White Horse for some time, and had taken into consideration the value of the pub as a community hub and the quality of the ales served. Mr Honey added that it was good to see such a quality pub in operation outside of the city centre. The presentation was followed by a free buffet and live music from the band Man Overboard.
