More trees for RoundhillOn Saturday 21st November a team of people planted a selection of young trees on the south side of Roundhill. Some trees had been planted last year but not all had survived. If we can grow a copse of native English trees here it will be attractive and good for wildlife.
The More Trees for Bath group and the Friends of Roundhill group have been maintaining the small plantation throughtout the year, doing occasional weeding and cutting back the grass around the trees as required. A team of us got to work on Saturday, digging away the thick turf and carefully putting the fragile saplings in. We estimated that about 50 trees were there from the last planting, and we dug in about 30 new ones. Thanks to the leader from the Cubs at St Barnabas Church who came and helped as well. Revamp of Southdown Methodist CentreWork to transform Southdown Methodist Centre into a fully revitalised church and community venue is well underway, and today there was an open day at the centre for people to come in and see some of the changes. The interior looks much fresher and more attractive as a place for activities to be held, although the big hall is still out of action.
The people overseeing the revamp are the Horizon congregation who currently meet at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Sladebrook Road. They have come up from the former Oldfield Park Methodist Church (which has been sold) and will be moving into Southdown Methodist Centre in February. When all the building work is completed, the 'nearly new' shop at the centre will be relocated to the foyer to allow for easy viewing and access. Joe, 19/11/11 Got a point of view? The next Twerton PACT will be held on 12th December in the Southside Youth and Community Centre at 7pm. PACT meetings are essentially community meetings that local residents can attend to raise issues of concern with Councillors, the police and others who work in the community. Play RangersThe Community Play Rangers have moved from Bath City Farm to the Southside Centre, where they will be organising children's play on Wednesdays from 3.30pm to 5pm. To find out some more about the Play Rangers, visit their web page here. Community AssociationSome residents are trying to set up a Twerton Community Association. If you would like to join, send me an email (joe@proudoftwerton.com) and I will pass your message on! Joe, 08/11/11 Got a point of view? Put it on the Forum here. Lunches for senior citizensThe Southside Youth and Community Centre is encouraging older residents to make use of its cafe as a place to go and do some activities. For this reason a series of special meals for senior citizens have been organised, as shown below.
To download a full-size version of this flyer, click here. A lot of older residents get bored and have nothing to look forward to in the week. So if you have an elderly relative, friend or neighbour, why not pass on the information and encourage them to go along to the cafe? Joe, 08/11/11 |
